Pentax knows how to attract the attention with the introduction of a number of products like D-SLR's, flash and lenses. The focus seems to have diverted from the compact camera assortment to other products. Certainly when we look at the attention that goes to the D-SLR assortment and the Photokina introductions. The Pentax K20 may be the current flagship of Pentax; with the introduction of the Pentax K-m/Pentax K2000 Pentax once again tries to get a grip on the DSLR market for beginning photographers. The size is definitely not to blame. The Pentax K-m/Pentax K2000 is very compact and can easily compete with other models, and stands a good chance for the title: 'compact DSLR of the year'. Even a pimped version of the Pentax K-m / K2000 was showcased and could be admired.

The Pentax K-m / Pentax K2000 has in fact all of the functionality of the Pentax K200 but in an even more compact housing. The resolution of 10.2 megapixel remained the same as did the image stabilization system. What did change, is the top LCD monitor that was still present on the K200 but disappeared from the K-m / K2000 and its function was taken over by the LCD monitor on the back of the DSLR camera. If we check the back of the Pentax K-m / Pentax K2000 we immediately notice that the buttons have been given a different spot; they are now positioned on the right side of the monitor. In order to decrease the weight, the Pentax K-m / K2000 comes with a new 18-55 mm lens that has even less weight compared to its predecessor.

The target group of consumers this camera aims at, are the so-called 'first-time users', which makes user-friendliness also play an important role besides compact and light weight. The Pentax K2000 / Pentax K-m features a 'Help' button which offers immediate explanation to guide an inexperienced user on his or her first DSLR experience. And when the 'Help' button becomes superfluous after a while, you can dedicate a new function to this button through the menu of the camera. The Pentax K-m / Pentax K2000 will become available by the end of November. See the full Pentax photo gallery at LetsGoDigital.
